My Story
Dr. Robin McLeod is a behavioral health executive, licensed psychologist, and executive
coach who helps leaders redesign workplaces so neurodivergent people can thrive –
not by changing individuals, but by changing systems.
Over more than 20 years, Robin has founded, scaled, merged, and led complex
organizations across healthcare and behavioral health. She is a former CEO and a
former senior national leader at the American Psychological Association, where she
helped shape professional standards, governance models, and workforce strategies
influencing the practice of psychology nationwide. Her career includes building multi-site
organizations, leading large interdisciplinary teams, advancing national psychology
practice guidelines, and navigating highly complex regulatory and governance
environments.
As Chief Strategy Officer of Apidae Consulting, Robin focuses on closing what she calls
the social reciprocity gap – the hidden design flaw in many organizations that places the
burden of adaptation on neurodivergent individuals rather than on leadership, culture,
and systems. Her work centers on redesigning leadership behaviors, communication
norms, decision-making structures, and performance expectations so difference is not
merely accommodated, but leveraged.
As an executive coach, Robin partners with neurodivergent leaders and senior
executives operating in high stakes environments. Her coaching strengthens leadership
effectiveness without requiring masking or conformity, helping clients clarify their
leadership identity, navigate power and influence, and lead authentically while
sustaining long-term impact. Her approach blends psychological insight with executive-
level strategy, and is consistently described as grounded, incisive, and practical.
As an organizational consultant, Robin works with CEOs, executive teams, and
boards to drive culture change at scale. She helps organizations redesign leadership
expectations, talent systems, onboarding, management practices, and governance
structures so inclusion leads to genuine belonging. Her consulting draws on extensive
experience leading mergers, scaling workforces, building leadership pipelines, and
aligning strategy, culture, and accountability in complex organizations.
Across coaching and consulting, Robin brings a rare combination of executive
credibility, systems thinking, and deep understanding of neurodivergence. Leaders
choose to work with her because she has done the work herself – building
organizations, leading through change, and translating vision into execution. Her
guiding belief is simple and rigorous: when social reciprocity becomes a core
organizational value, organizations become stronger, more innovative, and more
humane.
